A Tustin neighborhood was visited by an unwanted guest on Monday, but one dog proved to be the hero of the day when it chased a large mountain lion up a tree until wildlife officials could safely capture it.

A mountain lion stuck in a tree at a Tustin home made for a unique call to Orange County police, fire and wildlife agencies on Monday, Nov. 18. The mountain lion was captured and eventually relocated to a remote forest area after a family noticed their dog had chased a “cat” up a tree, the Tustin Police Department said.

The dog chased the mountain lion up a tree, where the cat stayed for nearly seven hours. "She just went bolting and all of a sudden there was a mountain lion in our tree," said Danielle Conners, the dog's owner. The 8-year-old whippet beagle mix spotted the mountain lion hiding under a truck and took off after him.
