While flying over Hawaii, an American Airlines flight narrowly avoided colliding with a mountain peak in Honolulu. Flight AA298 avoided disaster on Wednesday at around 1 a.m. local time after departing from Honolulu International Airport.

An American Airlines flight departing from Hawaii had to make an "expedited climb" in order to avoid hitting a mountain during takeoff. There are no reports of injuries on the flight and the Federal Aviation Administration will be investigating.

The Federal Aviation Administration says an air traffic controller’s instructions kept an American Airlines flight from hitting mountains near Honolulu International Airport in Hawaii.
